The Favored Ones »

Favrd is a popularity contest, as we all know. I don’t begrudge any of the wonderful people on Favrd their status but I’d love to see a list of users ranked by the ratio of how many stars they accumulate divided by the number of followers they have. That would redefine the concept of a leaderboard and bring it closer to reality.

I have actually thought about doing that at one point or another.  I don’t know how much closer to reality it would bring it.  Maybe it would even out the middle of the curve, but @sween would suddenly seem infinitesimally funny, and someone with very few followers and 3 stars on a tweet would be king.

Though that would likely help people “discover” other people who’re funny in a way that the always scaling Favrd cannot right now.

it would have to be based on count of favrd-registered followers. also it would have to take into account the favoriting frequency of those followers. Also it would have to take into account how often the person tweets, at least if you want an accurate assessment of their batting average. Also we could work out a way to assign a weighted value to figure out the kind of sense of humor each favoriter has, to properly weight their stars for a sense of humor mismatch. Also it would have to be information that people actually use for some other purpose than to congratulate themselves, and I’m not so sure that it is, at least not on a broad scale. Stuff like this is fun but getting too concerned over how it is generated is only going to snowball us into tumblarity. I think being able to see the favorites of people we think we share interests with is sufficient.
